The Friends of Watchhouse Hill and The Story Cellar held a wonderful celebration of Oak Apple Day on Wed 29th May. The event was traditionally held to celebrate the restoration of the English Monarchy in 1660 and remember the giant oak in which King Charles II hid. In Pill the community were able to celebrate the 500 year old oak tree that stands masterfully on the hill with a parade led by the morris dancers and a performance under the tree by the children of the village. The Story Cellar created a play in two days which travelled through time from centuries ago when the acorn was planted through to the future and the prospect of this being the very last tree. Children entertained the audience with tales of suffragettes, returning war heroes and a visit from the Queen.
